Do you know the International Signal for Help?

This famous painting by Edvard Munch popularly known as The Scream depicts anxiety and distress.

Do you know how to ask for help if you are in distress and need to be rescued? Sometimes it might be difficult for a person (an adult or a child) to call out for help using spoken or written words. It is important to know how to show your distress and need for help and also to recognize it when someone else needs to be rescued.

This is the international Signal for Help in distress. It is two-step hand signal that we must spread awareness about.

Step 1

Step 2

This signal has been used by victims of abuse to let others know that they need urgent help. Children and adults in danger can reach out for help using this hand signal without alerting the person who is causing them harm.

The letters SOS, smoke and red flares are some other signals that can be used to signal for help in different situations of distress.

Please discuss and teach this simple one-handed signal to your family and friends to spread awareness.
