The second line of the anthem has been changed from "For we are young and free" to "For we are one and free".
Australia adopted Advance Australia Fair as the country's national anthem in April 1984. It replaced God Save the Queen, which had been in place since the time of British settlement in Australia.
This small, yet significant change, acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures of Australia date back 65,000 years.
“While Australia as a modern nation may be relatively young, our country’s story is ancient, as are the stories of the many First Nations peoples whose stewardship we rightly acknowledge and respect,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.
